Warm White Roofline Lighting on a Natick Ranch
The project
For this residential project in Natick, Massachusetts, we used warm white C9 lighting to define the long rooflines of a single-story ranch home. The installation follows the front eaves and continues across the projecting gables, maintaining consistent spacing through each change in roof direction. Because the property has a low horizontal profile, the lighting emphasizes its full width while giving the entrance and side elevations clear definition after dark. We kept the design focused entirely on the roofline, without adding lights to the windows, shrubs, fencing, or lawn. The warm white color complements the light exterior siding and provides a traditional appearance that remains consistent when viewed from either side of the property.
The challenge
A single-story ranch gets its presence from width, not height. This one has a long front eave, a gable end on the left, and a gable on the right that projects forward from the main roof, so the lighting has to turn corners and change direction several times while keeping the same rhythm from end to end.
How we lit it
We ran warm white C9 bulbs along the full front eave, up and over the left gable end, and around both rakes of the projecting gable, keeping the spacing identical through every turn. Nothing else on the property was lit: the chimney, windows, fence, ornamental grass and young trees were left as they are, so the roofline alone defines the house.
The result
From the curve of the driveway the outline reads cleanly from one end of the house to the other, and the projecting gable gives the display a clear focal point beside the entry.
