Warm White Roofline and Landscape Lighting in Wellesley
The project
For this residential project in Wellesley, Massachusetts, we used warm white lighting to highlight the home’s traditional architecture and established front landscaping. The roofline installation follows the main upper eaves, lower roof sections, entrance portico, and attached garage, creating continuity across the full width of the residence. Mini lights were distributed throughout the shrubs along the front façade, connecting the roof lighting with the garden while preserving the natural shapes of the plants. The consistent warm white palette complements the white siding, dark shutters, and symmetrical window arrangement. Rather than introducing freestanding decorations across the lawn, the design remains focused on the structure and existing landscape. This approach creates a balanced display that emphasizes the home’s architectural proportions and front entrance.
The challenge
The main house, a lower side wing, and the attached garage each have their own eave line at a different height, and the front beds are full of mature shrubs of different shapes and sizes. The goal was to connect the roof and the garden without letting either one overpower the symmetry of the facade.
How we lit it
Warm white bulbs run along the upper eave of the main house, the lower eave of the side wing, the portico gable over the front door, and both levels of the garage wing, so the full width of the home is outlined. In the beds we wrapped each shrub individually with warm white mini string lights, following its natural shape instead of covering it with a net, so the rounded forms stay visible. Using one color temperature for the roof and the plantings keeps the white siding and black shutters crisp.
The result
The house reads as balanced and complete from the front lawn, with the lit portico at the center and the glowing shrubs forming a low band of light along the foundation. The garage wing carries the same line, so nothing looks left out.
