Cool White Roofline and Tree Lighting in North Reading
The project
For this residential project in North Reading, Massachusetts, we used cool white lighting to connect the property’s long roofline and multiple elevations. C9 bulbs trace the upper ridges, lower eaves, and front-facing gable, creating a continuous outline across the main residence and attached garage section. We extended the same cool white tone into the front yard by wrapping the trunk and primary branches of a deciduous tree. Illuminated wreaths with red bows were positioned on the upper façade and central gable, adding repeated accents without interrupting the roofline. The cooler color temperature reflects across the snow and light exterior siding, while the red wreath details provide contrast. The overall design remains focused on the roof structure, front-yard tree, and architectural greenery.
The challenge
The house stretches across a long front: a main roof, a raised section with its own front gable, and a garage wing, with eaves at two heights. Keeping one clean line from end to end over that length, with the ridge and the lower eave both lit, is where most of the care went.
How we lit it
Cool white runs through the entire display, so the roofline, the wrapped tree, and the shrubs by the entry all share one crisp tone that matches the snow and the white siding. The bulbs follow the upper ridge and the lower eave together, which gives the long facade a double outline instead of a single thin line. The large tree at the edge of the lawn was wrapped along its trunk and main limbs, and smaller plantings near the entry were lit in the same color. Four wreaths with red bows break up the long white wall at even intervals and add the only warm color in the scene.
The result
On a snowy night the house holds its shape from well down the street. The wrapped tree balances the length of the building on the left, and the red bows on the wreaths give the eye a place to rest along the facade.
