Christmas Light Installation in Middleton, MA

This Middleton home sits above a sloping driveway, so the lighting needed to read clearly across both the front facade and the garage-side elevation. We installed warm-white lights along the tall front gables, smaller left-side peak, connecting eaves, and the roofline continuing down the right side. The changes in height are followed closely, with even spacing at each corner and peak.

At the main entrance, lighted greenery frames the stone-trimmed opening, and wreaths are mounted on the double doors. A second wreath marks the smaller entry on the left. From the street, the rooflines define the full width and height of the house while the entry decorations hold the center of the composition.

The challenge

The house is set high above a long, sloping driveway, and it is wide: two tall front gables, a smaller gable and dormer on the left, a covered entry porch and a garage level that drops down on the right side. The rooflines sit at four or five different heights, and the whole front has to read from the bottom of the drive.

How we lit it

We outlined each gable, the dormer and the connecting eaves in warm-white bulbs, then carried the line down the right side of the house where the roof follows the garage level. The porch roof over the front door and the smaller entry on the left got their own lines, so the lower part of the facade is not left dark under the tall peaks.

The decorations stay at the doors. Lit fir garland frames the stone-trimmed main entry and lit wreaths with red velvet bows hang on the double doors, with a second wreath at the side entry, which keeps the center of the house detailed without cluttering the roof.

The result

From the foot of the driveway the house reads at full width and full height, with every roof level traced. The entry holds the center of the view, and the right side stays outlined all the way down to the garage.

This Middleton home called for a roofline layout that could follow several intersecting gables without losing the overall shape of the house. We installed warm-white lights along the front-facing peaks, lower eaves, and the roof sections that continue toward the side of the property and the three-bay garage. The spacing remains consistent as the lines change height and direction, keeping each architectural section connected.

From the street, the lighting clearly defines the tall central gables, the stone-accented entry, and the wider roofline extending behind them. The side view shows how the installation continues across the garage elevation, so the display reads as one complete outline instead of lighting only the front peaks.

The challenge

This roof has a lot going on: two tall front gables, a smaller gable over the stone entry nested between them, returns at every corner and a garage wing with its own rooflines stepping back from the main house. Each change of plane is a place where the line of bulbs can break or bunch up, and the garage side is visible from the driveway as a second facade.

How we lit it

We kept the whole install to one element, warm-white bulbs on the roof, and spent the effort on continuity. The line runs up each rake, turns under the small return at every corner and continues along the eaves without gaps, so the stacked gables read as a set. Over the stone entry, the smaller gable is outlined at the same spacing as the large ones to keep the scale consistent.

On the garage side we carried the same line across the upper roof and the lower eave above the three doors, so the house does not end abruptly when you turn the corner.

The result

The result is a clean architectural outline with no ground-level lighting competing for attention. The front reads as a symmetrical frame around the stone entry, and from the driveway the garage wing is outlined as clearly as the front.

This large two-story home has several front-facing gables, stone accent walls, an attached garage, and a wide landscaped elevation. The layout called for lighting that could follow the changing roof heights while keeping the front entry connected to the rest of the facade. We installed evenly spaced warm-white lights along the visible peaks, eaves, lower garage roofline, and selected vertical corners. Lighted wreaths were centered within the gable sections, and mini lights were wrapped across the rounded shrubs and lower hedges near the entrance.

At night, the roofline defines each section of the house without losing the overall shape. The wreaths break up the tall peaks, while the wrapped plantings create a lower band of light across the lawn. The front of this house is wide and broken into many parts: a tall central gable over a stone section, a smaller gable on the left, a lower gable over the garage wing, a long eave in between and a three-car garage that turns the corner. Each section sits at a different height, and the landscaping in front runs almost the full width of the facade.

How we lit it

We ran warm-white bulbs up every rake and along each eave, then dropped vertical lines at the outside corners so the edges of the house are defined, not only the top. A lit wreath with a red bow sits at the center of each of the three gables, which gives the tall peaks a focal point at eye level from the street. Two smaller wreaths hang on the double front doors.

At ground level, the rounded shrubs and the low hedge by the entry are wrapped in mini lights, and the evergreens flanking the steps are covered top to bottom. That lower band balances the height of the roof.

The result

The house reads as a single outline with three clear accents, and the lit shrubs carry the light across the lawn. From the angled driveway view, the garage wing and its lower roofline stay connected to the main facade.

This Middleton home sits well above the driveway, so the display had to read from the bottom of the hill. We traced the main roofline, the front porch roof and the bay window in large warm-white bulbs, which gives the house a clean outline against the night sky.

At the entrance, lit garland with red bows frames the double front door, and the porch railing carries a matching run of warm-white lights.

The stone-look pillars and railings along the stairs down to the driveway are wrapped in warm-white mini lights, and so is the lamp post at the foot of the slope, which lights the way up to the front door.

Across the sloped yard, three young evergreens are wrapped top to bottom, and a small tree in the backyard next to the white fence got the same treatment. Warm white on every element keeps the whole property consistent from the street.

The challenge

The house sits at the top of a steep, mulched slope with the driveway curving below it, so most people see it from well under the roofline. A display that only covered the front of the house would have left the whole hillside dark, and the stairs down to the driveway turn a corner partway down, which gives the railings two separate runs to follow.

How we lit it

We treated the property as three layers. The roof and the porch roof carry large warm-white bulbs that set the outline of the house against the trees. The middle layer is the entry: the porch railing, the garland around the double doors and the stair railings, wrapped post by post in mini lights so each stone-look pillar reads as its own column.

The lower layer sits on the slope itself, where the young evergreens are wrapped from base to tip and the lamp post at the foot of the stairs picks up the same warm tone. Keeping one color across all three layers lets the eye travel from the driveway up to the door without a break.

The result

From the bottom of the driveway the house, the stairs and the hillside read as one composition. The wrapped evergreens give the slope depth, and the lit stair railings make the route up to the entry easy to follow after dark.
